About Tabora Farm & Winery
Tabora Farm & Winery brings a touch of South Africa to the heart of the Finger Lakes on the Seneca Lake Wine Trail. The story began in 1989 when Jane and Roger Eatherton purchased a 10-acre orchard in Bucks County, PA, becoming well known in the local farmer's market community for creative, high-quality foods under the name Tabora Farm and Orchard — a name that originated from Jane's childhood home in Cape Town, South Africa. After selling that business in 2009, the Eathertons started a new venture in the Finger Lakes as Tabora Vineyards, operating a 250-acre farm supplying local and national wine and juice producers, before converting a Quonset hut on the 100+ year old farm property into a wine production facility and tasting room.
Tabora's wines are 100% estate-grown, harvested, and produced from 200+ acres of vines. The current portfolio focuses on native and hybrid varieties — telling the story of grape and wine prevalence throughout Finger Lakes history — and has more recently expanded into vinifera plantings, including Syrah, a variety with South African ties. The winemaker focuses on minimal intervention while maintaining pristine and traditional winemaking practices to highlight clean, crisp, and concentrated wines.
The property is also home to a from-scratch bakery and deli café housed in a converted early-1900s building whose distinctive Cape Dutch architecture reflects Tabora's South African heritage. Offerings include sandwiches, salads, quiches, and ready-to-eat items made fresh daily — from staples like meatloaf and chicken pot pie to South African bobotie — plus breads, cookies, pies, and pastries, with gluten-free, vegan, and vegetarian options.
