About Bet the Farm Winery

Bet the Farm is a boutique, woman-owned winery on the western side of Cayuga Lake, midway between Ithaca and Trumansburg in the heart of the Finger Lakes. The tasting room is "quiet by design," offering a small, focused portfolio of red, white, rosé, and sparkling wines. The estate vineyard is certified sustainable by New York Sustainable Winegrowing, an independently audited program for environmental, social, and economic responsibility.

Founded in 2006 by winemaker Nancy Tisch, the winery began as a retail shop pairing local foods and wines in the village of Aurora. It later relocated to its current 6-acre property on Krums Corners Road, where Nancy and her husband Kit Kalfs built a multi-use facility and planted the Jacob Thomas Vineyard in 2018. Production has grown to roughly 1,200–1,500 cases per vintage of dry, fruit-forward, food-friendly wines made from vinifera and Cornell hybrid grapes.

The tasting room — known as the Big Blue Barn — overlooks the vineyard and the Cayuga Lake valley. Guests can choose from three tasting experiences (simply wine, wine & food, or wine & chocolate) alongside a selection of New York State cheeses, crackers, and cured meats. The winery is family-friendly, with toys and games for children, and welcomes well-behaved, leashed dogs.

Jacob Thomas Vineyard (Estate Vineyard)

The 6-acre estate vineyard, planted in 2018 and named in honor of Kit Kalfs's father. It is planted to five red varieties — Gamay, Cabernet Franc, Lemberger, Saperavi, and Dornfelder — and is certified sustainable by New York Sustainable Winegrowing. The first estate reds were harvested in 2020.
